Tick here for this beautiful, proud, masterpiece of a
building to take its rightful place and recognition in the world.
The unique mosaics, columns and arches makes Hagia Sophia a strong
candidate for the "new 7 wonders of the world".
My recent visit to Hagia Sophia was to attend a reception by the
BORUSAN Group for the opening of a photograph exhibition in the
Upper Gallery of Hagia Sophia. The Upper
Gallery was renovated and Architect Ahmet Ertugwas the curator.
The photograph exhibition of Ahmet Ertug was opened with full support
of the Borusan Group. Luckily, as an institution they feel the responsibility
to protect the cultural heritage of TURKEY, for future generations.
The restoration was made under the supervision of the Ministry of
Culture, General Directorate of Monuments and Museums. The photographs
exhibited at the Upper Gallery were taken from Cyril Mangos' book
- "Hagia Sophia -
A Vision for Empires". In August 2001 these photographs were
exhibited at the "International Byzantium Research Congress"
at Couvent des Cordelier, Paris.
Other interesting subjects that we cover in this issue
are; Meet and Eat has Gary Johnson the Executive Sous Chef of the
Ciragan Palace Hotel Kempinski. Turkish/Australian Food /Fusion

for him is "Turks know how to celebrate".
Fame and Game has Tavla/Backgammon. Arda
Findikoglu is the only representative of World Backgammon Federation
in Turkey and he has supplied the information on Tavla for us.Meet
at Culture has the Mosaic Museum.

religious trekking route from Antalya to Yalvac
(Psidian Antioch), "On the Steps of St. Paul".
